TOPICS OF CONVERSATION - "Family Planning"

6:00 - 6:20 Networking
Food and drink served.

6:20 - 6:30 Introductions

6:30 - 7:00 Seeing the Unseen - Bryan Chun, Hickock Cole Architects
Frequently in our modeling process, important component families become hidden or obscured by other modeled objects.  For example, an under counter dish washer is hidden by the counter top.  Roof drains are concealed by the green roof.  A receptacle mounted at 60” AFF and therefore above the cut plane.  Bryan will discuss strategies to maintain the visibility of obscured component families.

7:00 - 7:30 MEP Families - Seth Meyrow, Dewberry
Ever wonder how to build families?  Seth will show you the Dewberry three-part process to building Revit MEP families from scratch.  This process focuses on modeling MEP families so they have the correct size, appearance and scheduling functionality.

7:30 - 8:00 Super Families - Brian Gemmell, EIT, HCYU and Associates
The idea behind a Super Family is that the model represents more than just the mass and linework.  Duct, pipe, and electrical connections are one way to add more information however you can take this a step further.  Adding designer notes to families can make them easier to use, especially for entry level CAD techs and designers.  Incorporating design constraints helps maintain consistency and gives drawings a polished look.  In this presentation you will see specific examples like adding a line to represent the SMACNA minimum clearance for a duct endcap or diffusers that alert the designer when they are above design airflow and something more complex like a VAV or FPVAV box that shows clearance, minimum inlet and outlet lengths, min and max airflow values and a disappearing reheat coil.

8:00 - 8:30 Networking
